» TheComet - 25.04. 14:12 -- I'm just saying that statements like "only acceptable OS" or "dual boot is so 90s" literally means nothing
» TheComet - 25.04. 14:08 -- I used your Win8 touchpad thing at a Sissach meetup, I of enjoyed it quite a lot. Win8 is definitely designed for a touch interface, because I had a lot of problems controlling it with a mouse and keyboard
» TheComet - 25.04. 14:06 -- Yep! I use Linux on my laptop because it saves power = longer battery life and is great for programming, and I use Win7 on my gaming computer because most games don't run on Linux.
» M/A/K - 25.04. 13:36 -- i use ubuntu desktop for my server, because i like GUIs and don't want to dive into the console for every little thing. i use windows 7 for my primary computer because it is best suited for productive work and i want windows because some stuff does not run under linux and because i am used to it. i use windows 8 on my laptop because it came that way and i don't see a reason to change it. win 8 in combination with a touchscreen is rather good! enough justification?
» TheComet - 25.04. 12:29 -- The choice of a Linux distribution lies solely in what requirements must be fulfilled, and has nothing to do with how stylish it is, or how much swag i$t has.
» TheComet - 25.04. 12:23 -- You're throwing around a lot of "hip" opinions, but no reasons or justification whatsoever.
» MPony - 25.04. 12:10 -- I used centos for servers. Only acceptable linux version
» TheComet - 24.04. 23:09 -- But that is just my experience and opinion; you should form your own by giving it a shot!
» TheComet - 24.04. 23:08 -- Anyway, I have years of experience with both Windows and Linux, and I definitely prefer Linux, hands down. You don't need bloated antivirus software consuming most of your CPU, there are less NSA backdoors built in, and everything runs at least 10 times faster - even the Windows programs run faster on Linux than they do on Windows.
» TheComet - 24.04. 23:02 -- "fiddling with complicated addon software" - if starting the theme manager and clicking "download theme" is complicated, then sure...
» MPony - 24.04. 21:59 -- u stay with linux while i enjoy my windows. and as far as i know linuy still ahs no real replacement for active directory with GPos
» MPony - 24.04. 21:58 -- thats exactly what not userfriendly means. having to fiddle with complicated addon software to get a usable experience is not userfriendly
» M/A/K - 24.04. 21:57 -- it's something... ^^
» TheComet - 24.04. 18:19 -- Hell, if you really don't like the idea of change, you can make your linux look and function exactly like Windows 7: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/A...ent=111137
» TheComet - 24.04. 18:10 -- True, but changing the functionality as well is nearly impossible without thirdparty software plugging themselves deep into the Windows kernel
» M/A/K - 24.04. 17:34 -- if you don't like the looks of it, you can change the appearence of windows as well, but most users don't care for that
» TheComet - 24.04. 15:05 -- I think you're being very closed-minded when you say Linux is not as userfriendly. What components are we talking about? If you don't like the Window manager, you can just switch to another one you find better. That's the power of Linux - you can literally change everything and everything until you're completely happy with your OS. That's something Windows will never be able to do, ever.
» TheComet - 24.04. 15:02 -- The reason for fragmentation is simply because of how customizable Linux is. Deep down, the kernel and coreutils remain the same.
» TheComet - 24.04. 15:01 -- Well, that's your opinion, and you're fine to have that. :) I'm not judging you.
» MPony - 24.04. 14:23 -- the fragmentation with linux systems is mindboggling
» MPony - 24.04. 14:23 -- windows is just way more userfriendly
» TheComet - 24.04. 11:12 -- motherfucking magic
» TheComet - 24.04. 11:12 -- "How is the first filesystem (called the root filesystem, because it contains the root directory) mounted, since it obviously can't be mounted on another filesystem? Well, the answer is that it is done by magic."
